Problems with Feet, Ankles & Knees

Team Lopez ChiropracticWhile carpal tunnel tends to be associated with those who work too hard, issues of the lower extremities are often times reported by those who play too hard!

Sports injuries are undoubtedly some of the most common injuries that any health care provider will see come through their doors. In fact, within a lifetime 40% of people in the United States will have suffered an ankle or knee injury. Also notable, 25% of all running and jumping injuries are ankle or knee sprains. This probably does not surprise you as you reflect back to eighth grade field day.

Foot Instabilities: Plantar Fasciitis

Furthermore, instabilities of other lower extremities, such as the foot, can cause problems elsewhere in the body. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the tough fibrous band of tissue that attaches your heel bone to the base of your toes becomes inflamed. Plantar fasciitis can cause knee, hip or low back pain in addition to the pain already in the foot. The resulting pain in other areas can be attributed to the fact that the pain in the foot changes your gait to compensate for the instability in your foot.

Collapse of the Arch

Additionally, excessive foot pronation can lead to the collapse of the arch. Foot pronation is when the foot rolls inward forcing the arch to flatten and widen. This disorder also calls for compensation from the body to "deal" with the dysfunction of the foot. Dysfunctions of the ankle, knee, and hip can also be the underlying problem associated with back pain or other areas of the body.

Extremity treatments at Team Lopez ChiropracticTraditional Medicine Doesn't Address Joint Dysfunction or Subluxation

Unfortunately, according to a 2001 study published by Dr. Pellow, 59% of patients treated by traditional medicine for foot, ankle, and knee pain reported persisting pain in a nine-year follow-up survey. Why? Most likely the continued pain can be attributed to an untreated joint dysfunction, or subluxation.

Chiropractic Care Can Be the Answer

Manipulative care (chiropractic adjustment) performed by Dr. Frank Lopez, a specialist in extremity adjustments, can help correct this dysfunction by restoring proper joint function and allowing healing to take place.
